The MPA is an international masters programme which will encourage you to consider and analyse how a changing global environment has shaped the ways in which work is organised and managed and how ideas about leadership and management may be applied in response to different problems and challenges.

The Public Administration (Human Resources) programme from University of Birmingham is designed for those who are interested in human resource management and development in the public, state or NGO sectors in developing, transitional or newly-industrialised countries. This is primarily a public sector management, not a business management, programme, although the themes covered are relevant to both sectors.

On this pathway you will explore current and recent trends in public administration and human resources, focusing on relationship between hard and soft approaches to the analysis and practice of management. You will also examine the interaction between organisational structure, culture, power and motivation in public administration and in international organisations.

Courses included:

  • Public Management and Leadership
  • Public Sector Reform
  • Human Resource Management and Development
  • Human Resource Development Policy
  • Research for Public Policy and Management

“The transition from undergrad to postgrad can be a big step up in terms of workload and what is expected of you, but there is so much support available to you as a postgrad student, from academic writing support (if you’ve been out of education for a few years or just want a bit of extra help) to mental health and wellbeing services. The careers support is fantastic – the uni puts on employer fairs throughout the year and you have access to one on one support from the Careers Network team, who can help you develop your skills ready for your next step!”
